The eruption of the Fuego Volcano near Antigua, Guatemala on 3 June, 2018 buried the community of San Miguel Los Lotes, Escuintla, and left hundreds dead in the area (though the unofficial number is a lot higher, some even said more than 2000) and many thousands of victims. They continue to be housed in deplorable conditions and the survivors continue to search for their missing relatives.
The Rotary Club of Kelowna agreed to provide $2,000 to be used to buy water filters for people directly affected and displaced by the devastating eruption near Antigua, as the eruption has contaminated the water. The money was sent to Donna Jepson of Give Kids a Chance Foundation in Toronto [who Patricia Ainslie had worked with on her Chromebooks project] who is working with Alice Lee So Fong of CasaSito in Antigua to identify and give the filters to people in need.
