The Field of Crosses Returns to Kelowna Cenotaph

From November 2 to November 12, City Park will, once again, set the stage for “The Field of Crosses”.  This visual memorial commemorates the lives of Canadian Armed Forces personnel who lost their lives in the service of their country.

The display touches close to home for members of our community – including students – in a meaningful way.  Each of the 240 young Canadian heroes killed in action are honoured with an erected cross inscribed with their name, rank, regiment and date of death.

The Field of Crosses Opening Ceremony will be held on November 2 at 11:00 am near the Cenotaph and is open to everyone.   Recognition will be given to local relatives whose loved ones are named on the crosses.

People can visit any time, during City Park hours, from November 2 to November 12, to walk among the crosses in reflection and remembrance.  The staging area is well lit after dark to provide safety and illumination of the crosses for nighttime visits.

On November 10 at 4:30pm, the public is invited to attend a moving, candlelight ceremony at City Park near the Cenotaph.

New this year is the opportunity to become a supporter of this worthy project.  Information may be found at www.kelownafieldofcrosses.com

The Field of Crosses is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Kelowna.  It was first brought to life in 2018 with partnership and cooperation from the Okanagan Military Museum and Society, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, the BC Dragoons and Cadets, plus local volunteers.
