Good Day Fellow Rotarians!
A great meeting last week - with a lineup of 4 speakers. Our main speaker, Dr. Kyleen Myrah talked about Journey Home. The Journey Home Strategy is Kelowna's 5-year, $47m plan to address homelessness with a focus on ensuring everyone has a place to call home. The goal is to ensure a coordinated and easy to access system of care for those in Kelowna who have lost, or are at risk of losing their home. The consequence of not going down this road would cost the community over $100m over the next 5 years. Let me know if anyone is interested in Dr. Myrah's powerpoint.
Our outbound student, AJ Akachuck briefly talked about his stay in Belgium. AJ will be doing a full presentation to the club in August.
Norm Lecavalier, the Public Relations Director at Sunrise Club talked about volunteer opportunities at Ribfest. If you haven't signed up yet, please do so asap.
Carol Eamer talked about - and Harold Heyming demonstrated - a great International Project - the Hippo Water Roller. This water roller allows people to transport upto 5 times more water to their homes for food and garden thus leaving more time available for education, household tasks and food production. This is a project that individual members can get behind - by sponsoring one of these water rollers for $125USD.
