Rotary at Work!
On July 24th, once again, the Seniors Fun in The Sun event was held as last year at a Pavilion adjacent to the Sensisyusten Elementary school off Boundary Road in the City of West Kelowna in the immediate vicinity of Pine Acres Care Home, the lead coordinator of the event. Organized annually by activity coordinators this year from 9 care facilities from Kelowna/Lake Country, Kelowna and City of West Kelowna, the BBQ has been hosted by our club since 1996.
This was a very successful BBQ at this facility and all thanks to an experienced and fun team.
We served burgers and hot dogs to approximately 130 people, all in 20 minutes.
We pulled it off with 7 of us, myself, Vice Chair, Kitchen Steward and Quality control Dennis Gerace, Master Griller extraordinaire Dale McKenzie, assisted by Sheldon Paulger and kitchen crew and servers John James, Catherine Comben, Sandi Ketler.
Thanks to our industry partners especially Reg Henry of Kelly O’Bryan’s for the burgers and jumbo all beef hot dogs FOC , Natures Oven for discounted buns, ; Safeway Bernard Ave for a $100 gift Certificate and the new Nesters Market of Lakeview Hts , City of West Kelowna for supply of onions, lettuce and tomatoes FOC.
The weather was a bit windy and cool for this time of year but we were under cover and the event and food was tremendously enjoyed and appreciated by all the guests.
A great fellowship opportunity for us Rotarians simply rewarded with a very tasty burger and hotdog treat, appreciative thanks from guests and kind words “ We could not do this without you” from the coordinator.
It was a proud thing to be a Rotarian amongst that appreciative group of seniors.
