Happy Sunday Rotarians,
Another great meeting last week – our guest speaker Danielle Hofer updated us on the programs and services provided by Women’s Enterprise Centre (WEC).
Women’s Enterprise Centre is a non-profit organization devoted to helping BC women launch, lead and scale their own businesses.
They provide business loans up to $150K, with access to an additional $100K through a new partnership with BDC. WEC has fueled the success of women-led businesses since 1995, providing business skills training, personalized business advice, mentoring, practical business resources and a supportive community to help women business owners gain the skills, mindset, financing and networks they need to realize their business potential.
Being Foundation month, Doug Gossoo gave us 5 reasons to give to the Rotary Foundation: accountability, impact, record of success, global reach and bringing about peace. He also highlighted some of the recent projects that our club has undertaken or supported – which were supported by the Rotary Foundation: Chromebooks for Guatemalan school children, Molo Kenya Maternal & Infant Health project, Vocational Medical Training Team to Bahir Dar (Ethiopia), Chittal High School Improvement project (India), Lake Country Food Bank power pallet stacker purchase project and Peachland pier lighting project – just to name a few!
Gord Savage – updated us on the VTT project going on in Ethiopia – looks like the team has arrived safe and sound, got setup and have already started their mission to help the burn victims.
We had a great Fireside meeting last Wed evening with 21 Rotarians attending – including 7 new members.
This week’s meeting will see our Annual General Meeting, and being Giving Tuesday, Doug Gossoo will talk about different ways to give to the Rotary Foundation. And our exchange student, Chiara, will have her first chance to give us a detailed update on her journey so far.
