Happy Monday fellow Rotarians,
We had a very passionate meeting last week where our Vice-President Lenetta Parry moved a motion to support Silver Lake as the recipient of our Major Project Funding of $25K. After some very good discussion and deliberation, the membership voted in favor of supporting Silver Lake. A very big thank you to Lenetta and all the members of Major Projects Committee for their work.
Our guest speaker was Carmen Sparg - President of Kelowna Chamber of Commerce (and a former member of our club). She highlighted how Kelowna Chamber of Commerce fosters a positive business environment in the Kelowna region by providing members with leadership, advocacy and services of value.
And, last night we had our Bollywood Gala fundraising event. What a great successful event. Everyone had a great time - a lot of fun & laughter, great food, good wine and lots of dancing. We don't have the final numbers yet but looks like we may have raised about $50K. A huge thank you to President-Elect Stuart Dickson - who chaired an amazing committee - who put up a great event.
Our guest speaker this week will be Frank Cui from the Chinese Cultural Society. Frank will present to our group on traditional Chinese traditions and culture and their group's attempts to revitalize this in the wake of everything transpiring lately. He is actually coming in from Vancouver to do this so I am quite intrigued.
Chiara Brunetti (our exchange student) will provide an update on her experience so far - and she will be talking about some of the things she would like to do between now and June.
We also have Rotary After 5 this coming Thursday. Watch for Dave Cullen's email for the location.
In service,
Raghwa
