Hello fellow Rotarians,

Hopefully you are all staying in - and keeping out of the smoke and haze that has settled in the valley.

A great meeting last week - Rotaract President Alex Doran described what the small, but mighty club has been up to. Last year the small club of 10 members donated over $9,700 to the local community - that is an average of approx $1,000/member, pretty amazing! I will invite Alex to come to another meeting soon so that members will get a chance to talk to her more (unfortunately, we ran out of time at the last meeting and Alex had to leave right away).

A great presentation from our guest speaker Myles Matilla - he talked about his passion to help youth with mental health issues. Myles is a very engaging young advocate for mental health. Has spoken provincially and nationally. He plays hockey for the Kelowna Chiefs and is taking business at Okanagan College. He is an ambassador for: CHMA Kelowna, CHMA BC, MindRight, Foundry, SickNotWeak &  Jack.org

Previous week, we had AJ Akachuk describe his experiences as an exchange student in Belgium. He had some amazing pictures to share with us. And our outbound student for this year - Annika  - talked about her preparations for the upcoming adventure in Chile. And, Larry Widmer - GM of Community Futures highlighted us on al the good work they are doing in the community in terms of educating & training aspiring entrepreneurs and their model of 'impact' investing in growth stage companies.

Congratulations to Kevin Greenwood for being selected as the 'Rotarian of the Month'. Kevin does an amazing job in the background to make our weekly programs run smoothly!

Reminder: DG Sherry Chamberlain will be visiting our club on Tuesday, Aug 28th - and she is hosting a social (picnic) on Wed Aug 29th starting at 4pm at Mission Creek Regional Park - you are all invited to the picnic.

Major Projects Committee is seeking applications for our major project for this year - please contact Lenetta Parry for more information.

Our Board Meeting was last Thursday and one of the major items for discussion was an MOU between the Club and the Foundation. We will be presenting the MOU to the club in the very near future.

This week will be a great week - with 7 new members being inducted to our club. And we will have Renee Wasylyk as our guest speaker. Renee is a renowned developer in town (Troika Development) and very recently, Renee announced her intentions to seek nomination for the federal Conservative Party for Kelowna-Lake Country riding.

I sincerely thank you all - for all you do for Rotary and the community. We are still looking to fill a few positions in a couple of committees. If you are engaged and enjoying, we commend you. If you are looking for a new opportunity within Rotary, please reach out and I will be very happy to match you with the right committee.

All the best - and see you on Tuesday.

And don't forget to 'Be the Inspiration' every day!
