Greetings Rotarians,
November 11th 2018 marks the 100 year anniversary of the end of the First World War. Last week was a special meeting dedicated to those men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice. It was a meeting full Remembrance…
We were joined by piper, Archie Morrison, Staff Sergeant Robert Daly, Mr. Jim White, President of the Legion, and author/historian Mr. Bill Peckham. The room was full of special visitors and guests, including members of the RCMP, the Royal Canadian Legion and it was especially nice to see our very own Howie Morgan!
Historian Bill Peckham was a pleasure to listen to as he gave us a new perspective on the poem “In Flanders Fields” and walked us through the journey of a young boy’s desire to be a bugle boy in the army!
We opened the floor to our own members to share stories. We heard from Ken LaLoge, Sharon Simpson, Carol Eamer and Rick Potter. Rick shared that his son, Sean Potter, was unable to make our meeting because he re-injured his back. An injury that occurred during his time serving our country.
Carol Eamer was presented with our “Rotarian of the Month” pin for her leadership in the “Field of Crosses” - a special tribute honouring fallen heroes in Kelowna’s City Park. We also thanked her for her hard work in making arrangements for our Remembrance Day meeting.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
Lest We Forget.
Please join us next week as we welcome Hon Steve Thomson, MLA and our very own Julie Mulligan in her classification talk.
Before I sign off, I remind you to please keep former Rotarian Joe Ianfrancesco’s family in your thoughts and prayers (he passed away on November 2nd), along with well wish wishes for Rick Potter’s son, Sean.
In service,
Lenetta
