Summary of the December 10th meeting.
A full crowd this week at our meeting with a total of nine guests plus a representation of eight young people from our Interact club at Kelowna Secondary School.
This was a busy week for President Ross with a great number of items to handle.
He started off with several announcements including:
- The "Get to Know" art contest at the Rotary Centre for the Arts on Friday December 13th at 6:30 PM. This program was started by Robert Bateman 13 years ago.
- The Snowbirds will be returning to Kelowna next summer and Rotary is once again involved.
Past President and TRF Chair Gord thanked the club for contributing to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation to the tune of $13,000 towards our goal of $18,000, plus an additional $2,000 to the Polio Plus Program.
Two donations were given out today both in the amounts of $1,500 to:
- Team Challenge which assists men 19-45 year of age who have been caught up in addiction problems.
- NOW Canada which help abused women by sheltering them and their children in safe places.
After announcing that 90% of the money raised through sponsorship of our annual Pro-Am Golf Tournament has been raised so far by just two of our club members, Past Pres. Bill Redmond capably encouraged all club members to get out and sell our sponsorship spots. The committee has decided that failing stronger support Plans 'B' and 'C' will be introduced.
Finally the Interact Co-Chairs Sofia Lee & Tiffany Sewell gave a complete account of the clubs activities for the first half of the Rotary year. They have helped at Pleasantvale again with leaf raking at the winter clean up; assisted at the schools Honours Banquet; raised $700 so far with their regular Pacho Days events; volunteered at the Kelowna Gospel Mission and worked at the A.S. Matheson school's Fun Day as volunteers.
